Joris Strijbos is a Rotterdam-based artist, working in the fields of expanded (live) cinema and audio performances.
Since 1999 he’s been running his own record label called “Obnoxious Records” on which he releases all kinds of electronic music. In addition to this he has also released work on different international record labels and performed in many countries throughout Europe. Later on he co-started “Seveninchrecordings” together with Renzo van Steenbergen to release more experimental music and organise label events.
While deconstructing and reconstructing audio equipment for his music performances, he expanded his live-set with obsolete and analogue video equipment. Using circuit-bending methods and signal distortion he creates an abstract environment of stowing patterns and gentle images. These techniques re-appear in his installations, in which he focuses on new ways of projecting and creating images. In this his main focus is dealing with how one can perceive audio/visual experiences.
